Trip logistics
Students will spend 7-11 days in Cape Town and/or Johannesburg, exploring culture, history, and the impact of Apartheid through activities and dialogues curated by Global Engagement. A detailed schedule of daily activities will be provided in advance.
Students’ payments primarily cover round-trip airfare to South Africa, with additional funding provided by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy, and Leadership and the Office of International Student Affairs. The $1,900 fee includes travel, housing, and 90% of meals. However, students are responsible for any vaccinations they choose to receive, passport fees, souvenirs, and meals during three designated "on-your-own" food days.
All students must attend a 90-minute, non-credit Global X Learning seminar during the spring semester. These seminars are typically scheduled on Wednesday afternoons, within the 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm timeframe.
All students participating in the Global X Learning program must commit to a comprehensive 360-degree experience. This includes participating in a symposium and poster session following the onsite trip to South Africa. The symposium typically takes place during Cultural Unity Week in the spring semester.
The recruitment process is outlined below. To be considered, students must submit the official application by the stated deadline. Additionally, students should note that a group interview will be held on a Saturday to select this year's cohort.
